"Kwan Yin" Original Copperplate etching on Hanhemule paper
18 x 32 Inches
Based on the model of “Degree of Difficulty”, this image of the Chinese goddess of mercy is an ode to one of the hardest things to do in life- Forgive.
With the fire like imagery made from the innovative technique of mascara as resist, this image is also an ode to the age old misogynistic myth of the “Agni-pariksha” or “test of fire” that involves woman proving their worth by going through a wall of fire to prove their chastity.
The idealistic style is influenced by the near perfect forms of the Buddhist figures in the cave paintings at Ajanta and Elora caves in Maharashtra, as is the ruin like imagery.
